My name is Ana Lee and I am the Instructional Technology Specialist at Oak Springs. This is my 6th year at Oak Springs and my 2nd year as the Technology Specialist. I love all things spicy and hanging out with my little people – Emory (3) and Max (18 months).

Four years ago, we started a 5th grade news team that does the morning announcements. Oak Springs 4It has been a journey! We started with once a week meetings where we recorded using my iPhone and iMovie. It took us forever! My goal was to get the kiddos to create the script, record, interview, and edit it themselves all while not interrupting instructional time in the classroom. Needless to say, we were able to only complete one broadcast that the students shared during our Monday morning assembly.

Fast forward four years, a TriCaster mini, a green screen, and 2 Canon cameras later. We have an amazing set up for our 5th graders. The news is done daily Oak Springs 3with a green screen and the students are steadily learning how to operate the TriCaster. Our goal is to live stream it (with Emily & Marc’s help!), but for now we pull the footage off of the TriCaster, edit it in iMovie, and upload to Adobe Connect.

The students take great pride in knowing that they are a part of the news team. Students all over the school really tune into the announcements because it’s coming from their peers and it’s geared towards them. If anyone has any insight on TriCasters or working with a green screen, please, feel free to share your wisdom!Oak Springs B
