Welcome to the Technology Design Team Weekly Lessons Learned! This is a recurring feature on Friday afternoons where the Technology Design Team will share top of mind resources and learning. Each week, we will post a few key things we hope you may find useful. We look forward to sharing our learning with you. We look forward to sharing our learning with you.
Some of the content may be specific to the realities of Austin ISD though, we hope, much will be useful to viewers worldwide. The Weekly Lessons Learned Archive contains a list of topics from and links to previous updates.
How can parents update their contact information in Frontline?
This video demonstrates the process for parents to update their contact information.
How can I restrict the internet in GoGuardian, but allow Adobe Spark?
A District Quick List for Adobe Spark was added this week. In order to restrict the internet to just Adobe Spark, there are about six URL addresses that should be marked as Allowed in a GoGuardian Scene. The new list, “Allow Adobe Spark and Google Drive” includes all of the URLs needed to assign a project to students and have them save to Google Drive.
Also, an update this month from GoGuardian provides the ability to apply a Scene to just a specific student group and not the entire class during a session. Their directions can be found on their support site.
Images/Links in my BLEND course are not visible/functional to my students, but they work for me. What’s happening?
This could be caused by the way content is added to a course. Some of the images or links may “live” in a course those students don’t have access to, so they will not be able to view it. To correct/prevent this issue, make sure you are using “import course content” through “settings”. See the Video How-To for a step-by-step guide.
How can students on Chromebooks create audio files?
Students can create audio mp3 files on their Chromebook and insert that audio as a clickable audio button in Google Presentations! This document demonstrates the process.
Digital Citizenship lessons and materials can now be found in the BLEND Commons
Previously, Digital Citizenship lessons existed in Reading for K-2, Homeroom for 3-5, and Advisory for 6-12, and now they are available in the Commons for anyone to pull and use for relevant conversations.
Open the portal (austinisd.org) and select BLEND
Select the ‘Commons’ icon in global navigation
Want to use any of this content?
Import it into any of your BLEND courses.
The Digital Footsteps lesson in the Student Online Safety blueprint lesson contains a video from Common Sense media that was recently removed from YouTube. We have replaced that lesson (in English and Spanish) and will be pushing out a replacement to all teacher courses. K-5 teachers will find the Student Online Safety lessons in their blueprinted Homeroom course in BLEND, while secondary teachers will find that module in their advisory courses.
